Brief History:

YWCA Meru branch was started way back in 1969 as a branch of YWCA Kenya which has it’s headquarter in Nairobi.
The branch is within Meru County in the eastern region of Kenya. Our branch mainly serves several other counties such as Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi and Embu.

YWCA Meru branch is located within Meru town, mwendantu in Meru municipality along Meru-kithaku road and opposite Meru town PCEA church. We also have a satellite office in Tharaka Nithi County where we serve orphans and vulnerable children.
YWCA Meru branch addresses issues of women and girls within Meru County and its environs, with an aim of creating a safe space for them.

Main Activities:

  1. Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR); against child labor in collaboration with the save the children Canada.
  2. Girls Empowerment Programme; against harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation and early marriages.
  3. Orphans and vulnerable children care and support; in partnership with Aphia Plus Kamili
  4. Hostel facilities; secure accommodation for ladies and men also.
  5. Conferencing facilities; for hire with a capacity of 100 with a kitchen for catering.
  6. Day care centre, nursery and primary school.
  7. Computer packages and Certified Public Accounts courses; from ATD 1 and 2, CPA section 1-6.
